Zeph stepped off the boat quickly, and casually began to walk away, hoping to avoid being roped into another chore. Cadeyrn followed beside him, poised for a lecture on responsibility, but unable to as long a Zeph kept speeding up the pace, far away from the docks, far away from the Gyptian boats. Well, almost. But now, he was out of earshot of his family. He paused for a moment, and pulled Cadeyrn up into his arms, and after looking around for a moment, asked a simple question.
"Which way's the market?" He looked around once more, as if to check for something he hadn't noticed, and cut Cadeyrn off before she could say anything on the matter, "'Right, follow the crowd."
Zeph looked back once more, looking at the boats, and wondered, briefly, how long they would wait for him. He soon dismissed the idea, deciding that the sooner he got out of eye-sight the better. There were rumors going around, something about a prophecy. If there was anywhere to learn more about rumors, it was in a city. Now all he had to do was find a market or a pub, where much information would be spilled. Cadeyrn finally spoke up, interupting his wild thoughts.
"Do we /have/ to leave every time we land somewhere? Can't we once just, I don't know, /rest/?" Zeph looked at her for a moment, and then looked back at the city, thinking for a few minutes before answering. This had to be the arguement to bring the red fox around. She had to understand what this meant to him.
"Irn, this could be it! We could be famous! We could Live the adventure, be the ones in the story, have people making tales up about us! Don't ou want someone to make up awful stories about your cunnig, your strength?!" Zeph smiled, but Cadeyrn shook her head a few times, and wiggled out of Zeph's hold.
"No. I want to be a regular Daemon, on a gyptian boat. I want to lay in the sun, and swim in the rivers. I want to go to fairs, and leave when all the colorful decorations go down." She responded, and it was Zeph's turn to shake his head, he didn't respond, but looked up at the crowd, and began to walk down the street, cadeyrn following, like always.

"Sir? Do you want something?"
No response.
"Sir?"
Still no response.
Clearly irritated, the merchant turned around to other customers, leaving the teen Tabbo Balric to sit on his barrel, his Aregentine gray fox of a daemon sitting right next to him.
"Tabbo, you sure you want to pull this off? It's awfully dangerous..you know those Gyptians could tear you to pieces," She muttered, half heartedly flicking her paw at a wandering bug. There was Saxaphoner, always voicing his doubts. With a sigh, Tabbo opened his eyes, forcing a hard stare at the little creature.
"Sax, you know what some of those younger kids did to Tyler in their last visit. Ended up with a broken arm after they attacked us," He mumbled, putting his arms behind his head. "Ain't it right?"
"Actually, I believe it was you who attacked them first," Saxaphoner retorted, licking a paw softly with her pink tongue. "And it was a really stupid thing to do, too. You shouldn't let people get to you; but you do, you know that? Soon as you get called the 'c' word, you go nuts. Honestly, if I didn't know you better I'd confuse you for a peasant." Obviously, she disregarded those less fortunate to own wealth to be just that, filthy idiots.
Tabbo rolled his eyes. "Details, details. You don't have to go right to the fine line. Look, we'll just take out one of 'em to get Tyler's revenge and we go home to Jordan. M'kay? It's as simple as that. We go in, we go out, maybe sporting a bruise or two, but launching a lot of hard clay at the enemy in the process."
Saxaphoner was still unconvinced, and though she knew she could hold him back, she didn't. She knew he'd be furious if he missed out on a chance like that, but that was only a small reason. Sax also wanted Tyler to be avenged; playing with his daemon Silverin was something she couldn't miss out on. Though she hardly got to do it, seeing how Tabbo almost always preferred to be alone or chased after girls, much to Saxaphoner's annoyance. "All right..let's just not give 'em so much hell that the Master will be on us. Remember the last time? He made us sleep in those creepy crypts for a couple days...I don't know about you, but I don't want to ever see another spider as long as I live."

"Sar! Wait!"
Sariana felt a slight pull on her insides and whirled around, her green eyes widening as she caught sight of her daemon again, only to watch as he was swept back by the current of the marketplace crowd. At the same time the pull inside her increased sharply to an unbearable pain, and Sar cried out even as Tar's desperate howling drifted to her ears. The girl began moving toward him, shoving people aside with no apologies and using her slight figure to squeeze through gaps. Where was he? Where was he!?
"Tar! Tarkothos!"
"Sariana! I'm here!"
Suddenly the pain let up, and Sariana gave a great gasp of immense relief to see her other half's huge form rise out of the throng of people, sunlight reflected off his silver wings. He flew forward, landing beside her, but only briefly; now that he had flown, Tar's wings were already attracting attention. It was bad enough that he was a wolf- people always looked about fearfully when they saw him, expecting to see a solider- but the flying didn't help.
For once, neither cared. It was enough to be together again- and besides, after that experience, they were leaving anyway. Sariana took only a short moment to secure the bag at her hip- she could hardly leave the food behind- before Tarkothos grabbed her collar in his teeth and lifted her up, off the ground and out of the crowd.
***
"Let's land and walk a bit. I don't like these stares."
Sar glared down at the merchants and townspeople who were staring up at them, fire flashing from her eyes. It wasn't any of their business what her daemon was or why they were flying!
Right you are. Hold tight! Tarkothos spoke softly into his child's mind as he flared his wings, dumping air out of the feathers to bank for a landing. He set her on the ground first, and waited until after she recovered her stumble to set down beside her. Then, hoping to avoid the stares (though both were adamant about returning any such behavior with steady, defiant glares), the pair set off walking through the streets.
"Close call there."
"I don't think I'll ever be able to walk there again."
Tar grinned. "Why walk when you can fly?"
"Point taken." Sar shrugged, then half-grinned, half-grimaced at her daemon. "If we can get everyone to keep their eyes to themselves."
For some reason that set Tar off in stitches, and Sariana waited only a moment before joining in. It felt good to laugh; it helped repel the terror of mere minutes before. They didn't even stop as they walked; human and daemon chortled happily for several stalls before finally settling their voices down at one that looked interesting.
"Shall we?"
"After you!"
Tar stepped under the tent, his silver eyes flashing all around the area. "What do you think they sell here?"
"No clue. But hey- look over there!"
Tarkothos followed Sar's gaze, landing his eyes on a young boy- slightly younger than Sariana, but slightly taller, it seemed- and his daemon, an Aregentine fox. "Hey! Kin of mine!"
For a moment Sar had no idea what her daemon was talking about; then she saw the fox and grinned. "A fellow canine, eh? Well, shall we go say hello?"
"Let's. After you!"
Sar laughed and strode forward, hopping onto the barrel next to the boy's as she reached him and smiling widely, revealing teeth as white as her daemon's. "Hey! Who are you? I'm Sariana. Sar. And this is Tarkothos."
Sariana used her heands to indicate Tar, who set his regal black figure down at his human's feet, regarding boy and fox curiously. Sar nudged him mentally, and he nodded his head in respect. "Nice to meet you."

((-Sobs- I'm so uninspired after losing my intro post in the old forum. Best one ever. . .))
Artemis and Skyran were pressed closely together, trying to navigate their way through the crowded throngs of the market. Mildly elochophobic, Artemis was already longing to leave and get back to the quiet Jordan College, but she had an errand. A few days ago, she had left her posts of good ink up on the roof while sketching, only to have them fall off and smash during a storm that night. Luckily, the vender who sold them was still in port, but both Artemis and Syran loathed crowded places.
Artemis kept tripping over Skyran, who wove between her legs to stay out of other peoples' ways, and having to squeeze her way through people who clearly didn't care how large her daemon was, or that they were reaching their breaking point.
"Just find the vender," muttered Artemis to herself, her insides clenching as the people swarmed around them, all over the docks. "Get the inks and go. Skyran!" She doubled over slightly, at the sharp pain in her chest, as Skyran fought her way past a burly merchant's daemon, a soaking wet black dog. Skyran managed to squeeze through, narrowly avoiding brushing some boys who were racing through the crowd, probably picking pockets. This was precisely why the two shared a fear of crowded spaces, after a particularly painful experience when Artemis had been ten, and a couple had touched Skyran on accident, no bothering to look where they were going on their way to the shows, or some other fancy place, where people had no courtesy.
"There!" cried Skyran happily, and the two managed to get out of the main throng, and onto a slightly smaller, but definitely harboring more space, little plaza where vendors had parked their carts, advertising their wares. Artemis purchased the inks, and slipping them carefully inside the rough canvas bag she wore off one shoulder, placing them in with some cheap velvet the helpful vendor gave her to prevent them from breaking. Artemis thanked the vendor, and turned to leave, looking for an open space in the crowd.
"Let's go through there," suggested Skyran uneasily, eyeing the thick crowd, and then nudging Artemis to a tent, that seemed to be open for wares. Artemis agreed thankfully, and slipped into the tent, the stood up looking around, spotting a boy with a fox daemon, and a girl with a wolf daemon. And the wolf had wings.
"Wow," breathed Artemis.

Zeph was weaving through the crowd, giving as much as he was getting agressively. Soon, he was surrounded by not only a pushy crowd, but by tents and carts, all showing there wares carelessly. Just as carelessly, Zeph reached out and plucked something from a cart, hid it below eye-sight and walked far enough to safely eat the roll.
"Did you Have to take that?" Cadeyrn snapped, leaping after the quick-moving teen. Her only answer was a wry grin, before Zeph ingored her completely and took another bite from the roll. Zeph looked around, then turned to Irn.
"This would be better with a sauce, or honey...Or Jam" Zeph walked into the tent, ready to grab a bottle of someone elses something, only to realize, almost too late that the 'jam' was ink. He looke dup from his target now, and saw the people around him, and knowing better than to stick around people that looked even slightly familiar, he started to back up. It was never good to be a Gyptian boy in a town where you remember fighting with the college students. And he thought he could remember the one standing there.
"Isn't he-?" Cadeyrn started "Tell me later, Irn!" He snapped, leaning over to scoop her up.

Artemis was about to step forward and make introductions for her and Skyran when a tremendous roar came from behind her. Artemis jumped, and whipped around, eyes wide and wondering why on earth Skyran had felt it necessary to vocalize so loudly out of thin air.
The lioness was bristling, and had leapt at another boy's daemon, a small fox, which Skyran was easily six times the size of, trying to pin her down while avoiding touching the boy as he tried to grab his daemon. Artemis, still rather bewildered, and feeling flushed from the anger streaming from Skyran, looked up to the boy who's daemon was Skyran's target. He was a Gyptian, and seemed a bit disheveled. In his hand, he still clasped Artemis's jar of ink.
Artemis felt her temper rising quickly, like it always did. She had bought that ink for the second time, and this time, she was going to keep it.
"I would like my ink back please," Artemis said in a steely voice, that she usually adopted when she was angry but not about to shout. The scholars were quite familiar with it. "If you'd like some, the vendor's over there." She jerked her head in the general direction.

"Ink?" Zeph said, then looked at it more carefully, dissapointed. "You can have it." Less than carefully, he shoved it back at her. His fingers let go before he checked to make sure she had it, and he left the girl to catch it. He reached for Cadeyrn Aagain, dissappointed at the daemon so close. He really should be getting out of here. Every second was a better chance at beign recognized. Zeph glanced around nervously, and looked at the lion. Not only was it Taboo, that thing was HUGE.
Cadeyrn, on the other hand was having trouble. He weighed the options, all the while keeping his head down. He hoped to look submissive and nervous, not suspiscous and evasive, like he was. He obseved the girl from under his bangs, holding back an impish grin and looked at the pair. If he was going to do this, he would have to get away, fast. The lioness had carefully avoided his hands, after all...
Zeph lunged for the lion, counting on her dodging away. His fingers stretched out, and he hissed, quickly "Run Irn! i'll catch up in no time!" He really hoped the lioness could dodge.

Artemis's eyes widened as the boy thrust the ink at her, letting go just before it could reach her. Artemis dove for it, just managing to snatch it before it broke, feeling a rush from the sudden impulse of reflexes, as Skyran balked at the boy, as he tried to . . . touch her?
Skyran snarled again, almost falling back against Artemis in her haste to get away from the fingers. She and Artemis had experienced what it felt like to have your daemon touched before, and ever since then, could not bear to be in crowds, the fear was that strong. "Get away!" cried Skyran, flattening herself against Artemis, who grabbed at her short, light fur.
"What're you doing?" yelled Artemis. She knew he was probably just trying to get away, for whatever reason other than having been caught thieving. But what if Skyran wasn't so fast? What if they hadn't been able to get out of the way in time. It is scarring to have someone touch your own soul, and it's not something that should be tested lightly, like waving a match around a barrel full of oil.

Tabbo blinked as everything happened so rapidly. First there was a girl talking to him -Sarwhatsit-, then a huge lion daemon was throwing herself at another fox daemon, then backing away, snarling. What the heck is going on?! Saxaphoner was on her paws already, bristling in the direction of where the mini fight was being brawled out.
"Name's Tabbo Balric, she's Saxaphoner," He mumbled, not taking his eyes off the fight. "We're from Jordan College. We--" He stopped, for the first time realizing her daemon was there. And that her daemon had wings. Sax had noticed him stop and looked back, eyes round as dinner plates.
"Tarkothos....that is so cool!" Sax yipped, wagging her gray-and-white tipped tail friendly. "I mean, you're a wolf and all but you have wings like a bird and--that's just so cool!" Tabbo glared at her for her lack of being inconspicuous about her feelings, but then again, it was -his- feelings as well as her's. And well, he thought they were cool just as much as she did.
Mentally, gave her a nudge to stop her from going wild with her compliments; she could do that and he'd be more embarrassed then ever. Saxaphoner looked up at him and smiled a toothy grin, winking slightly. She flickered for a moment before shifting into an ermine, leaping up onto Tabbo's shoulder. Though he was thirteen, Saxaphoner's shape hadn't settled yet. He didn't want her to stop changing shape, mainly because he loved all of the shapes she would turn into; ermine; wolf; cat; fox.
Tabbo turned back to where the fight was breaking out. "I wonder what's going on over there...Do you know, Sar?" He pointed, then he saw a flash of tanned skin and out stretched hands. His eyes widened. "Sax! It's a Gyptian!" Sax turned around sullenly, her annoyance at leaving Sar and Tarkothos to get revenge almost stronger than her fear of getting beaten up, especially by a guy willing to touch another's daemon. "Let's go, Sax! I think it's one of those Gyptians that hurt Tyler!" Tabbo took speed, the ermine Sax clutching his shoulder as tightly as she could. He stopped after a few paces, looking back at Sar and Tarkothos. "Coming?"

Zeph let out a sigh of relief and pulled up Cadeyrn, turned and began to scramble away, callign after him, "Sorry about all that!" He pulled Cadeyrn close, regretting having to do something so vile... but, really, who knows how many of those people were waiting to jump him? He could handle one or two people, but in a market, friends are always close by. He struggled through a crowd, wondering how it had seemed so much easier earlier. He kept His head down, trying to think, trying to predict where he could go next-
"Ow!" Cadeyrn had bit him, none to gently. "What was that for!?"
"You could've touched that daemon!" Cadeyrn exclained, struggling out his hands.
"But I had to get you away!" Zeph responded, sounding hurt, letting her jump from his arms. "I couldn't stay there, and I couldn't leave you!"
The fox said nothing in return, and trotted ahead of him. 'At least she's not going back,' Zeph nodded, trying to follow his daemon through the narrow spaces she went. Still, he did feel guilty. He couldn't imagine some one touching Cadeyrn. Then again, he had also heard that boy's voice when he said Gyptian. He couldn't have good intentions. He just wished he could explain it to the girl.

Artemis crouched, her canvas bag with the ink forgotten on the floor, trying to comfort Skyran. Though the lioness was large, and generally braver than Artemis, she was trembling after the shock of almost being touched. Artemis ran her hands over Skyran's short, course fur, stroking her head.
"It's okay, Sky, they missed," Artemis said softly, trying to console the big daemon, who pawed at Artemis and drew closer. It was always strange to be in a crowded place when it came to Artemis comforting Skyran, though people with small daemons could do it easily. But when a lioness sits on the floor and needs a hug, or soft words, it always seemed to attract stares. "They didn't touch you. Let's go back to Jordan. We can go on the roofs if you want."
Skyran nodded, still shaken, as she clambered back onto her paws, though seemed a little more peaky at the idea of roof-exploring. The lioness liked adventure and climbing around on the intricate roofs of Jordan, but it was sometimes hard to pull Artemis away from the books and parchment, and get her to break the rules.
Artemis stood back up, hand placed protectively on Skyran's back, as she looked back to the girl with the wolf daemon--the other boy with the fox seemed to have gone after the Gyptian.

(OOC- O.O WHoa! Slow down, guys! XD)
"Tabbo and Saxaphoner of Jordan College." Sar grinned as she spoke. "That's cool. I've never been to Jordan, I--"
She broke off as Saxaphoner began to speak- or yip, as she was excitedly yabbering. Both Sar and Tarkothos grinned at the gray fox, and Sariana even laughed a little- a kind laugh, though still expressive, like loud bells. "Thanks. Usually people see he has wings and freak out."
"Ha! People see that I'm a wolf and freak out." Tar snorted at what he clearly considered idiocy. "But yeah, the wings don't help."
"Pretty darn useful, though." Sarshivered slightly at the memory of her deamon being swept away from her, jostled by legs- luckily wearing pants- and others' daemons.
Tarkothos shrugged.
Tarkothos watched Saxaphoner intently as she flickered into another form; he hadn't long been settled, and though he enjoyed his fixed form, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy whenever he saw a daemon shifting. Sar lay a hand comfortingly on his head, and he sighed softly, leaning his massive body against her.
The moment of tranquility didn't last long. Just as Tabbo began to speak a question, there was a shout from behind. Girl and wolf leapt to their feet in an instant and Sar whirled around in a blur, just in time to catch sight of a Gyptian boy reaching for a daemon.
"No clue, but I'm about to find out!" Sar's words were like something physical, sharp and dangerous, and fire rose in green and silver eyes as girl and daemon both barred their teeth. "You'd better believe I'm coming!"
She stopped only once, to meet the distressed eyes of the girl whose lion had nearly been touched. "Come on, then! Are you going to come or not?"
Normally Sariana didn't have a problem with Gyptains, but today was another story. You didn't just reach out and touch someone else's daemon. This was a problem that needed correcting.
With a quick wave to Tabbo and Saxaphoner, Sar set out running. Tarkothos checked for clearance and spread his wings wide, flying at her from behind and scooping his other half up easily in his teeth.
"I never thought I'd say this, but bless this crowd. It'll be a quick flight."
Tar, his mouth full of shirt and his mind full of flying, didn't answer, but he sped his wings up. And it was a quick flight- shortly they drew level with boy and fox, and then they drew ahead of the fleeing pair, ignoring the people who scattered as the wolf daemon drew closer to the ground. Then Tar turned and dropped Sariana, who landed in a crouch in front of the Gyptian and sprang up again. Tar stayed aloft, each beat of his powerful wings sending a small draft of wind down.
"Anything to say for yourself? Or do we settle this the old-fashioned way?"

Zeph stuumbled backward, arms spinning to keep from falling over. He regained his balance and looked at the new girl, then her daemon, and responded.
"Look- That kid back there don't like me. The girl's daemon was pinning down Irn and I had to get away. It wasn't going to be a fair fight, so I figured I'd get out of there. I'd like to continue my getting, if you don't mind!" He looked around the girl, and looking at Cadeyrn, who turned around expectantly, then noticing Zephs problem, turned quickly. She stopped a bit away. "I didn't even want to get close to that Daemon, okay?" Zeph didn't bother looking at the girl, not quite taking her seriously as an opponent. He really needed to be moving. No telling when that boy would come to get him, now with more amunition agaisnt him, and with someone else to help. Cadeyrn looked at the daemon above her, and so did Zeph. He bit his lip. The girl might not be a problem, but the daemon would be, and he wasn't too keen on getting close to another daemon.

A quick but sharp note of triumph touched Sariana's mind as the boy reeled backward, but she found herself unable to share Tarkothos' feelings. So he had nearly fallen- that was nothing in the long run. There was a fight in the air, a tension that wouldn't be broken by somebody's stumble.
Sar cursed her height mentally; even in her thick-soled shoes, she had to stare up to meet the boy's eyes. It was hard to be imposing when you were four inches shorter than the person in front of you, and the girl knew full well that the only thing about her that would make to Gyptian take her seriously was her daemon. Hoping to help matters, the girl took off the green bag that was still looped around her shoulder- now she wasn't wearing any sort of accessory at all, save for the wolf medallion tucked inside her shirt, and looked more like a fierce boy than a wild girl. And now, if she had to fight, the bag wouldn't get in her way.
"Which kid? Because you're currently standing in front of someone who doesn't like you much herself." A staccato growl from Tar emphasized the statement as Sariana continued. "What if that lion hadn't been quick enough? Boy, soldiers in battle don't try and touch each other's daemons. I should know- I've had enough lectures on soldiers, Tarkothos being a wolf.
"So you're going to stay right where you are until Tabbo and that other girl catch up. Whether you like it or not!"
Tarkothos dipped down again, brushing only slightly above the boy's head and aiming several puffs of air from his wings at the fox daemon before he climbed back up and wheeled around to come back, hovering above Sariana's head.
Careful, Tar. He might be telling the truth, but he might be willing to- to-
He won't. Tarkothos' mental voice was hard and steely. I promise you that, Sariana.
Good.

Zeph shifted, becoming more defensive, now staring stright at the girl, first shocked, then serious. "I was referring to the boy, bu tnow I suppose more of you are after me." He growled back at her, momentarily angry about not being able to pass. "If I had actually touched the daemon, I wouldn't have moved, and taken the beating as it came to me." Zeph wasn't joking anymore, and took a second to to glance over his should and check, then turned back to see Cadeyrn moving closer to him, snarling as she did, trying to make herself bigger than she was. She didn't take her eyes off the wolf, and Zeph turned bac to glare at the girl, not flinching under her daemon's wings. He wasn't going to back down. "And what do you know about warriors, besides what you've heard? Just because you're daemons a special wolf, doesn't mean you know anything!I'll bet you've never even been anywhere close to one." Zeph had a rule that he never hit girls - First. If he could just get this fight over quickly, maybe he could get away. Maybe he'd go back to the boats, if he could find them. But then he'd still have to keep a look out for the boy. He doubted the other girl would be willing to get close to him.
